Changing Township Ordinances

Despite clear public feedback from the township survey, the Supervisor ignored residents’ input and moved forward with his own agenda on ordinance changes. This disregard for community voices shows a troubling lack of transparency and accountability in local government decisions.

Ordinance Changes

Water Front Fences

Changing ordinance to allow split-rail and other see-through fences not exceeding four (4) feet in height in the R-1 Waterfront Residential District from the front corner of a dwelling to the water’s edge.

Previously, fences were not permitted between the dwelling and the waterline in this district. This amendment would permit fencing in those waterfront areas.

Survey results- 46% Yes      54% No

Road Setbacks

Reducing the minimum required road right-of-way setback for residential structures from 20 feet to 10 feet in the R-1 Waterfront Residential District and the RR-1, R-2 and R-3 Off-Water Residential Districts and the agricultural District. This ordinance changes how close homes, garages, and other buildings may be constructed to the road.

Survey results- 38% Yes       62% No

Accessory Structures

Changing the ordinance to allow any size accessory structures in all Districts, as long as you maintain 50% or less lot coverage. Current ordinance allows accessory structures to be a maximum of 1500 square feet.

The Lake Township Planning Commission at a Public Hearing passed language to allow accessory structures to fit the size of the property. This was rejected by the Township Board 3-2. See the attached document.
